Case Study // Easter Bucklyvie Quarry
Planning Application and Environmental Statement
This quarry is located in the County of Fife in the central belt of Scotland.
The project was for a rock quarry to be developed on a Greenfield Site, the application comprising a planning application and environmental statement in support of extracting 3 million tonnes of rock over 20 years.
Prior to submitting the application the land required to be secured under a long term lease with the proviso to purchase the land sometime in the future.
Forming part of the application was the preparation of an environmental impact assessment addressing in particular landscape and ground vibration issues in particular due to a nearby chemical works and major pipelines adjacent to the site.
A detailed progressive restoration and landscape scheme was drawn up to limit the impact the extraction area would have from surrounding viewpoints.
On completion of quarrying the quarry will be landscaped to provide wetland habitats together with extensive woodlands for access by the public.
